The Sensei Mixtape

Posted On Friday, October 30, 2020

For the past two weeks I've been schooling cats to the fact that some old school artist DO always burn with my Pete Rock '97 the Loud & BBE Years mixtape and also schooling cats to one of my fave slept on producers in the game with my Nottz Raw Plays The Classics mixtape. So I figured I keep the slept on party going with another one of my fave producers who's criminally slept on and that's Ski. And the craziest thing about Ski for me is dude isn't just slept on from the work he's been putting in since '94 but with BANGERS this dude has been cooking up recently! Put it like this, the first time I liked a Jay Z song, it was over a Ski beat with "In My Lifetime." Not to mention that my 3 favorite songs off of Jay's "Reasonable Doubt" were all Ski bangers (and don't forget Primo did 3 beats on "Reasonable") "with Dead Presidents", "Politics As Usual" and "Feelin' It." And his work with Camp Lo? Maaaaaaaaan...don't even get me started on his work with those dude. To this day I remember being at 'EAA in B'more and getting in the 12" for Camp Lo's "Luchini" in the mail and playing it for the first time and seeing the ENTIRE studio lose their mind like they were hearing hip hop for the first time. Then you throw the Paradise remix for Coolie High he cooked up using Mike's "Lady In My Life" AND Camp's 5 mic classic "Uptown Saturday Night" (yup, that's a classic) dude EASILY found himself as one of my favorite producers and to crack that list in the 90's when EVERYBODY behind a SP and MP were making bangers, says a lot. But like I said earlier, the average hip hop head has absolutely no idea of the work that Ski's been putting in for the past 5 years with Dame Dash's DD172 camp for new school MC's like Currensy and Stalley and then you throw in his solo project (which quiet as kept is in my top 5 of producer comp albums) "24 Hour Karate School" which has the banger he did for Mos and Whosane "Taxi" on it?!?!?!? Put it this way, if you've never heard "Taxi" stop what you're doing like Humpty Hump and start bangin' my "The Sensei" mixtape RIGHT NOW and thank me later. Salute.
